Dr. Rani Srivastava is Associate Professor and Dean of Nursing at Thompson Rivers University in
Kamloops, BC. She also holds adjunct positions at York University, Toronto, ON and Dalhousie University,
Halifax, NS. She is currently serving as the NECBC (Nursing Education Council of British Columbia)
representative on the board of NNPBC (Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of British Columbia).
Dr. Srivastava is a nurse leader with a track record for leading change through building relationships
and translating vision into concrete strategies across stakeholder jurisdictions.
She is recognized for her leadership in bridging academia and practice environments and creating
practice based research roles. Her career has included senior Nursing leadership positions in
Professional practice and Quality Improvement. She has served on the board of Registered Nurses
Association of Ontario; Lambda Pi Chapter for Sigma Theta Tau International; Belmont House (Senior
Retirement and Nursing Home); and Aurat Health Services (nonprofit serving SouthAsian women and men) and
an executive member for the Academy of Chief Executive Nurses (ACEN) prior to its integration with
Canadian Nurses Association Leadership Academy.
Dr Srivastava is passionate about patient and family centered care for culturally diverse and
marginalized populations. She is recognized for her leadership and scholarship in the area of diversity,
equity and cultural competence education. She is the author and editor of a textbook entitled the
Healthcare Professional???s Guide to Clinical Cultural Competence and has written several book chapters
and articles on topics such as cultural identity, religion, ethics, and family centered care. She has
chaired and co-chaired national panels for developing Best Practice Guidelines to move evidence into
practice. Her research has focused on organizational enablers for culturally competent care; teaching
pedagogies for diversity and equity; supporting transitions of care from hospital to community, and
supporting /strengthening nursing practice through leadership, mentorship, and technology.
She regularly serves as a consultant, speaker, and workshop facilitator for a variety of audiences and
has worked with universities as well as regulatory and professional associations in nursing to develop
guidelines for developing and integrating culture into care. For her leadership on Cultural Competence,
Diversity and Equity, in 2017 Dr. Srivastava was named by the Canadian Nurses Association as one of the
150 nurses for Canada who are strong public advocates and leaders in advancing patient centered approach
to quality health care.
