To help keep our indoor air clean, TRU promotes a scent-reduced environment. Please reduce the scented personal care products you wear to campus.
Many students and employees on campus have chemical and scent sensitivities, which can cause mild to severe physical reactions. These include shampoo, perfume, cologne, deodorant and laundry soap. In a survey of 400 people on campus:
- 23 percent of students and 38 percent of employees said their health has suffered due to exposure to scents
- Symptoms include headaches, coughing, allergies and stinging eyes
- 75 percent of students and 88 percent of employees said they would reduce their use of scented products if they had a negative impact on others
Please contact the Office of Safety and Emergency Management if you require ‘Scent-Reduced’ or ‘Scent-Free’ signs.
