Many senior business students are available to assist new students with a successful transition to TRU and university life. You can meet a senior student in a group or one-to-one setting at events and workshops.
Research has shown that friendships and connections are important to student success at university. Each student's experience is unique and the peer support program helps make the right connection between students.

Hello, My name is Hanifa. I am currently in my second year studying BBA. My favourite things to do are swimming, hiking, travelling and reading novels at a park or a cozy cafe. As a mentor I hope I can help you to navigate your first year here at TRU business school and show you what Kamloops has to offer, especially to new international students. My life motto is “You didn’t come this far to only come this far”.
Hi there, My name is Jesper and I'm a fourth year BBA student majoring in accounting. I've chosen to be a part of this mentorship program because I like being there for and supporting people. Having successfully gone through what you're about to go through, I've developed a few useful skills and insights that I'd love to share with you. My ultimate goal as a mentor is to alleviate some of your anxieties and make your first few semesters in the BBA just a little bit easier. Outside of TRU I have pretty diverse experience: I've worked as croupier at a few casinos in Europe, spent a decade as a camp counsellor in Ontario as well as delivered a couple of JABC programs in Kamloops as a volunteer. I'm really excited to meet you all and hear about your first couple weeks the in the BBA program!
My name is Kirsten, and I am a fourth year accounting major in the BBA program. I’m really excited to be a mentor and help you navigate your first semester. I’ve done a lot in my time here at TRU from being an accounting teaching assistant to participating in the co-op program. Feel free to ask me about my experiences, study and organizational/planning tips, and (of course) accounting! If you have a fantasy book recommendation or two, I’m all ears for that as well — I’m a huge reader and love creative writing as well!
Hello! My name is Manuela, I am 19 years old and I'm from Colombia. I am an BBA first year student. I know that when we get here we can feel very lonely, but having company makes the experience much better. However, I know that for some people it's more difficult to make friends. Therefore, I could teach you what I have learned to socialize, expand my social circle and have fun in the time that I have been here. Also, I would be willing to share with you the tricks I have implemented and have helped me learn to manage my time and improve my study skills. Welcome everyone! Let's make this experience a good memory for the future.
Hello folks! It's Nafia here, your peer mentor for this semester! I am a third-year-BBA student majoring in finance; from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Being an international student myself, I understand that transitioning to university life from high school might be hectic sometimes. I will try to help you with coping strategies during this challenging time. I can help you with courses, time management, work-life balance, and other segments in which I have some experience. I love reading books and watching movies; music is my passion. I possess good skills in Indian classical music and some subcontinental divisions of music. Please feel free to reach out to me if you're struggling with studies, courses, or anything else you feel you need help with; I will try to help you jump off the bar!
Hello! My name is Shubham and I am a third year BBA student from India. In my free time, I love to play and watch football, or simply go for an outdoor activity. I also have a keen interest in the financial world and love reading about it. As a mentor, I hope to assist you with any questions regarding university life and how I managed to settle in Kamloops — my new home and now yours, too. I have always been a big fan of planning and organizing my schedule, which helped me significantly with academics and part-time work. I am excited to share my experience and knowledge with you all
My name is Tanvir, and my pronouns are she/her. I am a fourth year BBA student studying marketing. I'm in my final semester, and so far the journey has been incredible. Currently, I am employed as a marketing coordinator. Along with university faculty, campus events and career and experiential learning have played a significant role in helping me progress in my career. Throughout these years, I've learned to balance my personal, professional, and school lives. I'd love to share the skills and tips I've learned for managing multiple tasks and taking care of oneself. Outside of school, I enjoy canvas painting, going for walks, and trying new foods. I am a tea lover who enjoys experimenting with different herbal tea flavours. What inspires me is seeing my future self achieve goals and carve out a place for myself in the world through my work and creativity. A small tip for myself and everyone: make sure to prioritize your mental health in all aspects of your life.
Hi there! My name is Taryn and I'm from Kamloops. I'm a fourth-year Bachelor of Business Administration student majoring in marketing, and I'm also in the co-op program. On top of being a student, I am also a peer mentor, a future student ambassador, a server and supervisor at a local restaurant, and I work in a marketing/HR workStudy position at TRU. Outside of school and work, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, golfing, and hiking. Even though my schedule may be busy, I have a great school/work-life balance!"
