Group benefits plan

TRU offers a comprehensive benefits package to help take care of yourself and your family. The plan includes:

Pension plans

TRU provides defined benefit pension plans that offer a competitive dollar-for-dollar matching with an immediate vesting period.

  • Municipal Pension Plan for support staff
  • College Pension Plan for faculty and excluded staff

Vacation and days off

To encourage a healthy work life balance, TRU offers a generous vacation allowance in addition to a full campus closure at the end of each calendar year.

  • Tenure-track faculty: 40 days
  • Administration: starting at 25 days
  • Support staff: starting at 15 days
  • Paid time off during campus winter closure

Tuition reimbursements

As a university, we are committed to life-long learning for our students and our employees. A number of our TRU programs are eligible for full tuition reimbursements for employees, their spouse and dependents.

Leave options

Whether you’re ready to grow your family, further your career or volunteer with an impact, TRU has various leave options to support you.

  • Parental leave top-up for faculty and excluded staff
  • Deferred salary leave to self-finance a future leave of absence
  • Leave for Change — use your vacation time to volunteer overseas with all costs covered through our partnership with Uniterra.

Workplace wellness offerings

When you need help to navigate life’s milestones and challenges, our confidential employee and family assistance program (EFAP) is available to you, your spouse and dependents at no extra cost. Spouses or dependents can ask the TRU employee to add you to their account to login or confidentially contact our Campus Wellness Advisor for information on access and services.

TRU also has a dedicated mental health and wellness advisor and a wide variety of offerings and resources including: workplace wellness webinars, a multi-faith chaplaincy, and much more.

Collective agreements and working conditions

TRU has a diverse workforce that is organized into a number of staff and faculty employee groups with terms and conditions of employment specific to each group.
