Mission fulfilment framework
TRU is committed to the comprehensive cyclical assessment of institutional effectiveness and student success. Mission fulfilment planning and evaluation fosters the alignment of pan-institutional integrated strategic planning initiatives with the institution’s strategic commitments.
TRU’s mission fulfilment framework and evaluation process is implemented through a subcommittee of the Academic Planning and Priorities Committee of Senate (APPC) and is supported by the Office of Mission Fulfilment and Quality Assurance, along with Integrated Planning and Effectiveness (IPE).

Institutional change goals
The Envision TRU process was completed in the Spring 2020 and resulted in the adoption of the institutional vision statement, along with our mission, values and four strategic change goals for TRU.
The strategic change goals establish where the institution wants to be in the next decade. The work of mission fulfilment is to plan for what success looks like and to evaluate our progress towards these goals.
Eliminate achievement gaps
Honour truth, reconciliation and rights
Lead in community research and scholarship
Design lifelong learning

Institutional learning outcomes
TRU also identified eight institutional learning outcomes (ILOs) for baccalaureate graduates, approved by the Senate in April 2019. TRU is committed to preparing students for success in their future professional and social endeavors, and to be leaders in addressing the social, environmental and ethical challenges of today and tomorrow.
Connection Communication and teamwork
A TRU graduate demonstrates effective communication skills appropriate to a range of audiences and the necessary skills of effective leadership and teamwork.
Engagement Lifelong learning and social responsibility
A TRU graduate reflects on and sets goals for learning beyond their university experience. They also critically evaluate and apply socially responsible, sustainable and ethical behaviors.
Exploration Knowledge, critical thinking and investigation
A TRU graduate acquires, connects and applies a depth and breadth of knowledge. They also construct meaning from information by applying creative and critical thinking through research.
Local-to-global Indigenous knowledges and ways and intercultural awareness
A TRU graduate recognizes and respects the value of Indigenous knowledges and ways and the value of diverse cultures and worldviews.
Strategic commitments
Review of the institutional learning outcomes is the responsibility of the Academic Planning and Priorities Committee of Senate (APPC). Supported by the Office of Mission Fulfilment and Quality Assurance, the ILOs will be reviewed at least once every seven years.
Click here for information on the general education requirements, which ensure students in baccalaureate programs take curriculum that meet the ILOs.
