NURS 5100 Knowledge for Advanced Nursing (3,0,0) NURS 5100 Knowledge for Advanced Nursing (3,0,0)Credits: 3 credits This course provides an opportunity for students to explore the philosophical (epistemological, ontological and moral) foundations of knowledge for nursing practice. Students will critically analyze the development, organization, and application of nursing knowledge in contemporary practice settings, authenticating the relevance of nursing knowledge to nursing practice as well as within interdisciplinary collaborative healthcare environments. Course emphases are: philosophy of science, knowledge generation, social justice, and critical thinking.

HLTH 5500 Integrating Information Technology in Healthcare (3,0,0) HLTH 5500 Integrating Information Technology in Healthcare (3,0,0)Credits: 3 credits This course will address ethical and appropriate applications of information technology to enhance knowledge development, knowledge transfer, and patient care within healthcare settings. Students will develop advanced understanding and skills in concepts such as the integration of technology within healthcare systems, data storage and retrieval, patient and heath practitioner education, and ways that technology may support complex decision-making, inter-disciplinary communication, and evaluation of healthcare outcomes. Future uses and/or designs of technology will be discussed. Integral to the course will be enhancing students' ability to adapt to as well as influence the design of continually evolving types, uses, and forms of information technology in healthcare. |

NURS 6220 NURS 6220Credits: 3 credits This course explores the foundation of teaching in nursing, focusing on the understanding and development of core competencies for nurse educators. Emphasis is placed on teaching and learning theories, pedagogical methods, and nursing educational research, preparing participants for various nursing practice roles. The course prepares students to explore and critically examine the philosophical, theoretical, and ethical perspectives, informing teaching and learning in nursing.
Prerequisites: NURS 5100 (min. grade B) and HLTH 5200 (min. grade B) and HLTH 5300 (min. grade B) and HLTH 6000 (min. grade B). |

NURS 6230 Teaching and Assessment Strategies for Nursing Education (3,0,0) NURS 6230 Teaching and Assessment Strategies for Nursing Education (3,0,0)Credits: 3 credits This course builds upon educational theory presented in NURS 6220 - Foundations of Nursing Education, focusing on the adult learner and issues related to learner diversity. The emphasis is placed on analyzing and designing strategies and modalities relevant to classroom and clinical teaching in nursing education for both structured and unstructured settings. This course provides students with a variety of teaching strategies and evaluative approaches designed to promote a productive and effective learning environment. Students will explore a wide selection of instructional methodologies appropriate for the higher education setting and staff development. Students will also examine methods of learning assessment and evaluation based on current educational and nursing research.
Prerequisites: NURS 6220 (min. grade B-) and approval of the course faculty. |
