Resident advisors are senior residents who are familiar with student housing daily life. These residents work closely with the staff to help make our environment enjoyable, relaxing and conducive to a positive learning experience. The advisors are also instrumental in developing programs and activities within our community.
Some of the programs are:
- Peer support
- Personal development
- Life skills
- Stress management
- Educational direction
Resident Advisors (RA)
The role of the Resident Advisor is filled by returning students who live in the building and plan educational and social activities for TRU Housing. The RAs provide valuable support and guidance to students, while at the same time acting as a liaison with Housing management. The RAs complete nightly rounds of the building and are available through the Front Desk. The RAs have the tools and knowledge to get you the answers, direction and/or assistance you need, or can simply be someone to talk to.
Community Advisor (CA)
Our Community Advisor is a paid para-professional staff member who helps support the Resident Advisors and Residents’ Council. Working under the leadership of the Residence Life Coordinator, the Community Advisor helps facilitate and enhance our programs and events as well as empowering our RAs and RC to foster a community we all want to be a part of.
Residents’ Council (RC)
As a representative body of the TRU Housing student population, the Residents’ Council aims to enhance the housing experience and foster academic success by practicing high quality student leadership through programming, volunteerism and student support initiatives. The Residents’ Council creates opportunities for TRU Housing students to participate in leadership initiatives, learn valuable new skills and add value to the student experience. Students may volunteer on committees, attend meetings or simply participate at Council events. The Residents’ Council Executive positions are elected by the students in TRU Housing. All residents are welcome to apply to be a member of the welcome crew, committee chairs and members at large. All Residents’ Council positions are volunteer positions.
Our programs and events
Please note that programs vary between different buildings.
Resident Advisors (RAs) use programming to help build community within TRU Housing. Everything from teaching you how to cook your own meals, movie nights, community challenges, to learning more about different cultures and traditions. These programs are designed to make your residence experience as fun and engaging as possible.
The Residents’ Council uses programming to meet student interests and requests. Everything from Residents' forums, which allow students to express concerns and make suggestions, to socials and sports. The main focus of these programs is what the residents want to do during their time here.
Our standards are the policies and procedures set for students who live in TRU Housing. They are detailed in the student residence agreements for North Tower, McGill Residence, East Village and West Gate Dormitories, plus the Residence Community Living Standards and Special Provisions Related to COVID-19.
These standards relate to an individual’s status as a student, and their behaviour on campus, which includes all residence buildings. It is through these standards that residence can ensure all students have a safe, secure, responsible and respectful community.
Our overall objective is that this inclusive environment promotes not only academic success of all our residents, but that the community creates an environment conducive to personal growth and development.
