Nursing Transition Courses

Transition nursing courses are suitable for nationally or internationally educated health professionals or students entering or participating in entry-level nursing programs.

Nationally educated nurses, for example, may choose these courses to support a transition in their professional practice or to receive credit toward a post-diploma undergraduate degree program.

Internationally educated nurses may choose some of these courses to support their Canadian licensure.

Students in entry-level nursing programs may opt for the theory courses as an elective or find a course suitable for transfer credit toward a course in their program of study.

To take these practice courses, applicants must supply:

  • A satisfactory health declaration from a general or family physician or nurse practitioner
  • A current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate (Basic Life Support, Level C, current within one year)
  • An up-to-date immunizations record (refer to Health Link BC - Immunization for Health Care Workers in BC)
  • A Criminal Record Check (CRC)

Notes

Internationally educated nurses whose first language is not English are required to provide evidence of English proficiency by passing the Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses (CELBAN) at the level required by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.

TRU-OL program students are responsible for consulting with their program advisor to ensure that courses selected are appropriate for their program of study and educational goals.
