Indigenous Students

We provide support for Indigenous students and alumni with career development, co-operative education and experiential learning.

Career development

Indigenous students and alumni can book appointments with our career services coordinators and Indigenous experiential learning coordinators to discuss career development through the lens of Indigenous Canadians’ unique opportunities. CEL also provides access to Career Connections, where students and alumni can explore job opportunities—including culturally relevant opportunities with Indigenous bands, businesses and organizations.

Co-operative education

Co-operative education is a program that allows students to alternate study terms with for-credit work terms in industries related to their academic programs. It is an excellent way to develop employable skills, improve confidence, explore various employment cultures and create connections with potential employers. Co-op coordinators and our Indigenous experiential learning coordinator support students in seeking co-op opportunities and throughout their work terms. Explore program eligibility and requirements for co-operative education with the link below.

Experiential learning

Beyond co-operative education, students can engage in experiential learning through TRU and other organizations. Career & Experiential Learning offers guidance and support to students looking to build their resumes with curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular experiences. Indigenous students can explore opportunities to support their communities and develop skills that will advance their professional profile.
