Jack Nelson

Jack received his Juris Doctor from the University of Melbourne in 2014. He's admitted to practice law in Victoria, Australia and Hong Kong, China. From 2015- 2018, Jack served as an associate with King & Wood Mallesons LLP's international technology team in Hong Kong and later transferred to the Singapore office in 2019. After moving to Canada, he earned his Master of Laws in Air & Space Law from McGill University in 2023, winning the Nicholas Mateesco Matte Prize in International Space Law and the Jose Bogolasky Memorial Prize in International Air Law.

His research focuses on law, science and technology, especially air and space law. Jack has published work in journals like the Asian Journal of International Law, Cambridge International Law Journal, Columbia Journal of Transnational Law, European Journal of Legal Education, German Journal of Air & Space Law, Singapore Journal of Legal Studies, Journal of Space Law, and in edited collections. His work has been cited in publications from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the United States Institute of Peace, the European parliament, the United States Congressional Research Service and in amicus curiae submissions before the United States Supreme Court.

Currently, Jack is completing a Doctor of Civil Law at McGill, backed by a Canada Graduate Scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. He is also an associate academic fellow at the National University of Singapore. From 2022 to 2025, Jack edited the Annals of Air and Space Law for the McGill Institute of Air and Space Law. His recent awards include the 2024 Brennan Essay Prize in Public International Law and the 2025 Scholarship Prize from the American Society of International Law’s International Law and Technology Interest Group of the American Society of Internal Law.
