In partnership with our regional centres, rural and remote communities, Indigenous leaders, and members, we identify programs that align with your community's vision, infrastructure, ongoing projects, and resources. Every program delivery is unique, and TRU is committed to collaborating closely with you to meet expectations and build long-term capacity building that benefits learners, economic development, and community growth.

The programs listed below can be fully customizable while meeting the program outcomes to reflect your community's specific needs. Cost estimates are based on previous deliveries but may vary depending on funding availability, local instructors, access to community equipment and tools, travel requirements, and other factors.

Programs are offered through a flexible blend of classroom learning, online instruction, and hands-on training, designed to ensure that every delivery is tailored to your community.

Asbestos Abatement Certification

Gain the essential knowledge and skills required to safely and effectively manage asbestos in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations. This four-day comprehensive course is designed for individuals involved in construction, demolition, renovation, or maintenance activities where asbestos may exist. Participants will learn about identifying asbestos-containing materials, proper handling and removal procedures, use of personal protective equipment, containment methods, and waste disposal practices. Our training meets all WorkSafeBC requirements, ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, including sections 6.1–6.32 on asbestos exposure. Enroll now to protect yourself, your team, and the environment while complying with BC safety standards. Learners will receive Level 1 and 2 certification.

Construction Trades or Residential Building Maintenance Worker Sampler program

This 12-week Sampler is designed to offer students a hands-on opportunity to gain a basic understanding of three common construction trades:

  • Carpentry
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical

The approach supports safe workplace practices and student skill development and encourages design, planning, production, and evaluation of various construction techniques while completing small construction projects in the community. Learning outcomes will provide students with theoretical knowledge and tangible skills to assist their understanding of the trade. All trades covered within the Construction Sampler will build skill sets for a common project. Students will gain an understanding and appreciation for trades in their everyday lives. Other trades can be substituted based on shop and lab availability.

*This program can be customized as a Residential Building Maintenance Worker Sampler to meet community needs, such as roofing, painting, renovations, etc. In collaboration with utility companies, TRU can include Energy Advisor training.

Construction Craft WorkerLevels 1 and 2

This six-week Construction Craft Worker Apprenticeship program is designed to provide participants with the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to perform skilled labour work on various construction projects. The program covers a versatile base of skills and knowledge, including:

  • Worksite safety
  • Tools and use of tools
  • Blueprint reading
  • Demolition
  • Concrete
  • Site and groundwork
  • Form setting
  • Excavation and shoring
  • Pipeline and utilities

Worksite certifications: First Aid Level 1, Transportation Endorsement, Traffic Control, Fall Arrest, Aerial Work Platform, Construction Safety Training Systems, Ground Disturbance.

Residential Building Maintenance WorkerLevel 1 (Level 2 and 3 also available)

The Residential Building Maintenance Worker (RBMW) Level 1 is 8 weeks long and provides students with the entry-level skills and knowledge to address repairs and maintenance in single and multi-family dwellings. The topics will include maintenance and repair of residential buildings (single-family unit, multi-unit, high rise), including minor carpentry, drywall, electrical, floor-laying, painting, plumbing, refrigeration mechanic and roofing repairs, maintenance, installation, inspection, testing, and troubleshooting (as per Technical Safety BC legislation and regulations). Students will also receive First Aid Level 1, WHMIS, Site Ready, Fall Arrest, and Fire Extinguisher Training.

Road Builders Foundation and Heavy Equipment Operator Apprenticeship

This 10-week training includes the Road Builders and Heavy Construction Foundation and the Heavy Equipment Operator Apprenticeship programs, accredited by Skilled Trades BC (STBC). Students will gain practical and theoretical skills to become an entry-level heavy equipment operator. Learn how to operate loaders, dozers, excavators and rock trucks, packers, backhoes, and graders (optional). Students will also receive Traffic Control Certification, Roadbuilders Safety Training System, and First Aid Level 1.

Roofing ApprenticeshipLevel 1

Start your career in the roofing industry with our Level 1 Roofing Apprenticeship program! This 4-week Level 1 course provides hands-on training and essential knowledge to prepare you for a rewarding career as a professional roofer. You’ll learn safety protocols, material handling, roof system installation techniques, and how to work with various roofing materials, including shingles, membranes, and metal. Designed to meet industry standards and apprenticeship requirements, this program sets you up for success while emphasizing safe work practices and technical skills.

Basic Cook Training(Line, Catering and Institutional)

Start Your Culinary Career with Our Basic Cook Training Program Our Basic Cook Training Program is the ideal starting point for a career in the culinary industry, offering hands-on instruction in essential kitchen skills such as knife techniques, food safety, recipe preparation, and large-scale meal production. Designed for aspiring chefs and kitchen professionals, the program emphasizes practical training in real-world kitchen scenarios, allowing students to build confidence as they prepare soups, sauces, meats, baked goods, and more under the guidance of an experienced chef. Graduates will be equipped for entry-level roles in restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and catering companies, with additional training in time management, teamwork, and kitchen organization. Whether you aim to enter the workforce or pursue further culinary education, this program delivers a strong foundation and the practical experience employers value.

Custodial / Building Service Worker Certificate

Kick-start your career in building maintenance with our hands-on Building Service Worker Certification program!
