We are thrilled to launch a pilot program for TRU's Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Environmental Economics (MEEM) and Master of Science in Environmental Economics and Management (MScEEM). Through this pilot program, TRU will offer the program's foundational graduate-level courses online beginning Fall 2024.

These required courses - which also make up the Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (GDBA) - prepare students for success in the second year of their MBA or MEEM or MScEEM program. Second year advanced courses will remain on-campus in Kamloops.

Eligibility

  • This online option is currently being offered only to students with a final letter of acceptance (LOA) or a conditional letter of acceptance (CLOA) for TRU's MBA/MEEM/MScEEM.
  • Applicants must meet the language, quantitative & computing skills requirement.
  • Course waivers may be considered for eligible candidates.
  • Enrolling into the online GDBA delivery is optional and subject to availability of seats.

Technical Requirements

Students will need a computer that meets the following requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows 10 or later, Mac OS 10.13 or later, or recent versions of ChromeOS (extension workflow only).
  • Browser: Chrome or Firefox (extension workflow only).
  • Connectivity: 1 Mbps Upload & Download (mobile hotspots and tethering are discouraged).
  • Webcam: 640x480 resolution.
  • Microphone: All microphones other than those built into headphones are permitted.
  • Speakers: Built-in or external speakers are required.
  • RAM: 4GB.
  • CPU: 2 cores at 2.4GHz recommended.
  • Monitor Resolution: 1366x768.

Fees and Cost

Tuition costs for the GDBA program are the same for online and on-campus students.

  • Tuition cost per GDBA course: $2,824.35 (subject to change).
  • Cost for 2 courses per semester: $5,648.70 (subject to change).
  • Total cost for the diploma: $16,946.10 (assuming no waivers; subject to change).

Students save on travel and living expenses and do not pay on-campus service fees. Additionally, high-performing students may be considered for scholarships.

Student Support

Support includes a mandatory online orientation, virtual academic advising, online library resources, technical support, peer coaching, virtual workshops, and monthly drop-in sessions with coordinators.

General Information

 What is the new GDBA online intake for international students?

The GDBA program will now offer an online intake for international students, allowing them to complete the Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (GDBA) online before transitioning to the in-person MBA or MEEM/MScEEM program for the second year.

 What is the capacity for the new online GDBA cohort?

The cohort has a capacity of 25 international students.

Eligibility and Admissions

 Who is eligible for the online GDBA program?

Eligible students include those admitted to the MBA or MEEM/MScEEM program for Fall 2024 who have not yet received a Study Permit (SP), as well as those with a Seat Offer (SO) who meet the language and quantitative requirements. Students required to take Math 1070 are not eligible. SO’d students must pay one semester's tuition deposit to begin the online GDBA.

 Can new applications be submitted for the online GDBA program?

No new applications will be considered for this intake. Only students who received a letter of acceptance by June 19th and have not yet received study permit approval will be considered. If capacity remains, applicants with a conditional letter of acceptance willing to move forward with a tuition deposit may be considered. New applications can be submitted for the Winter 2025 intake of the regular MBA and MEEM/MScEEM programs.

 What happens after completing the online GDBA?

After successfully completing the online GDBA and obtaining a study permit, students will transition to the TRU campus for the second year of the MBA or MEEM/MScEEM program, studying for 12 months.

 Will completing the online GDBA affect my eligibility for a 3-year post-graduation work permit (PGWP)?

No, students will still be eligible for up to a 3-year PGWP after studying the second year of the MBA or MEEM program on campus for 12 months, based on current policies.

Program Delivery and Structure

 What is the format of the online GDBA courses?

All online GDBA courses are paced and follow the campus semester timeline. Courses are asynchronous, allowing flexibility for working professionals. Students should take no more than 2 courses per semester.

 Can I defer my enrollment in the online GDBA program?

Deferrals will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students may also defer to attend the program on campus, which will require a study permit.

Exams

 How are online exams conducted?

Online exams will be invigilated through ProctorU, with a fee of $45 per exam.

Immigration Related

 Will completing the online GDBA affect my eligibility for a 3-year post-graduation work permit (PGWP)?

No, students will still be eligible for up to a 3-year PGWP after studying the second year of the MBA or MEEM program on campus for 12 months, based on current policies.

 What if my study permit is refused by IRCC and I cannot attend the second year of my MBA or MEEM/MScEEM program?

You can still complete your Graduate Certificate in Business Administration credential from TRU. If you decide to re-apply for your study permit, the completion of the online GDBA will strengthen your study permit application.
