Retention

Goal: By 2019-20, retention rates for Indigenous students will increase by 10 per cent. Going into The Coyote Project: Indigenous retention rates fluctuated between 48 and 55 per cent between 2012 and 2016.

Completion

Goal: By 2019-20, Indigenous completion rates will reach parity with non-Indigenous students.

The Faculty of Arts is hiring two Indigenous faculty members, creating an Indigenous task force and indigenizing its course content. Additionally, it is developing a course about language and culture and creating a cultural camp designed by elders.

The faculty is also developing a peer support/mentorship program to increase retention rates for Indigenous students by hiring 10 student mentors, seven of whom are Indigenous.

In the longer term, the faculty plans to increase Indigenous student enrolment and retention, increase success rates for Indigenous students, be responsive to Indigenous community needs, increase Indigenous knowledge and cultural understanding for all students and faculty and apply appropriate instruction and delivery.
