WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD? Natural Resource Science students in the Fisheries Management class will be presenting posters in the TRU cafeteria informing lunch patrons about issues such as Eco-certification and seafood labelling, fish species that consumers should avoid, good and bad methods of harvesting fish and shellfish, as well as information on a few popular types of seafood.
Culinary Arts students will provide information on the sourcing and cooking of the seafood. Students will provide handouts that patrons can take home to help them attain greater sustainability in their home food choices.
“Our students have spent the past several weeks researching their posters,” said Brian Heise, TRU Associate Professor in Natural Resource Sciences.
“Instead of presenting a purely scientific poster, our Natural Resource students can apply their new found knowledge of sustainable harvesting techniques to positively affect everyday consumer behaviour and the food industry.”
