The TRU Bookstore, along with 21 other national university and college bookstores, have partnered with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to raise money to support breast cancer research by selling a ‘breast aware’ t-shirt during the month of October.

The project is being launched in campus bookstores across Canada on Oct. 1, 2008. T-shirts will retail for $10 plus applicable taxes. The stores involved in the project will not receive any profits from the sale of these t-shirts. All proceeds from the project will go directly to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The T-Shirts will be available for sale at the Bookstore, located in the Campus Activity Centre, beginning Wednesday, Oct.1 and continuing through the month.

“We are proud to be part of the network of stores that is rallying together to support this cause,” said Glenn Read, Manager of the TRU Bookstore, at TRU. “Breast cancer has touched the lives of all of us. In some way, we all know of someone who has been diagnosed.” For the month of October the main goal of the 22 bookstores, is to raise as much awareness and support as possible.

Thompson Rivers University along with 21 other university and college bookstores are participating in the breast cancer awareness program including: Brock University; Concordia University; Grant MacEwan College; Laurier University; McGill University; McMaster University; Mount Royal College; Queen’s University; Ryerson University; University of Alberta; University of British Columbia; University of Calgary; University of Guelph; University of Manitoba; University of Saskatchewan; University of Toronto; University of Victoria; University of Waterloo; University of Western Ontario; Vancouver Island University; and York University.

To further raise awareness, Read says Ancillary Services at TRU is offering 20 per cent off regular priced giftware and clothing at the TRU Bookstore and 10 per cent all food services on campus every Friday for customers wearing the ‘breast aware’ t-shirt.
