TRU Science

Biological Sciences

Study living organisms with teaching-focused, hands-on degrees that lead to many options for employment, research or graduate study.

Bachelor of Science majors

Biology

Build a strong foundation in all aspects of biology with maximum flexibility. Students can choose courses to match their interests giving them the ability to tailor their education. The program involves extensive field and laboratory experiences.

Animal biology

Study animals in an ecological and evolutionary context. Learn all aspects of biology before specializing in animal and ecological areas in marine and terrestrial environments. The program involves extensive field and laboratory experiences.

Ecology and environmental biology

Acquire knowledge in the many facets of ecology and conservation biology. Students receive a strong grounding in all aspects of biology before specializing in terrestrial or marine ecology. The program involves extensive field and laboratory experiences.

Cellular, molecular and microbial biology

Obtain extensive exposure to the cutting edge of modern biology focusing on biology at the smallest scale. Build a strong foundation in all aspects of biology before specializing in biochemical techniques, regulation of gene expression, biotechnology, and microbiology. The program involves extensive laboratory experiences.

Chemical biology

Combines chemistry and molecular biology in a way that prepares students for the explosion of knowledge of life at the molecular level. Students learn to apply chemical principles and knowledge to biological applications, and study both chemistry and biology before specializing in various aspects of chemistry, biochemistry or molecular biology.

Opportunities for students

Researchers from TRU and other universities in Western Canada use the Wells Gray Education and Research Station to study the diverse pristine habitats nearby.

Students in third and fourth years can do research with honours and directed studies.

Careers for graduates

Graduates have gone on to successful careers in medicine, veterinary medicine, medical genetics, university, elementary and high school teaching, dentistry, wildlife biology, physiotherapy, pharmacy, biotechnology, chiropractic, optometry, microbiology, conservation and land management, marine biology, toxicology, bioengineering, molecular biology and more.
