Aksa

Aksa lives and learns in Tk’emlúps within Secwépemc’ulucw, the unceded territory of the Secwépemc peoples. She has worked with Thompson Rivers University since 2016 in roles including graduate tutor, instructor, and Writing Centre co-coordinator. Across these positions, Aksa is committed to creating welcoming, reflective learning spaces grounded in relational work, cultural awareness and sensitivity, wonder, and curiosity. She firmly believes in creating safe spaces where people can thrive and grow, and this commitment guides her approach to teaching, mentoring, and community-building.

Beyond the Writing Centre, Aksa leads a province-wide research team as principal investigator for the Peer Mentoring Program for Early Childhood Educators of BC. In this role, she conducts mixed-methods research that centers educators’ voices and experiences. Her work emphasizes careful data analysis, thoughtful and accessible dissemination, and expanding opportunities for educators across diverse communities to participate meaningfully in research.

Mackenzie

Weyt-kp! Mackenzie is grateful to live and learn in Tk'emlúps within Secwépemc'ulucw, the unceded territory of the Secwépemc peoples.

She began with the TRU Writing Centre as a tutor in 2016 and completed her BA with a co-operative education designation; her co-ops included marketing and communications for the TRU Sustainability Office as well as Career and Experiential Learning.

As the writing centre support specialist, she enjoys supporting tutors and students as they navigate through their academic and writing journeys. She believes in practical education and hopes to encourage and empower students to embrace their unique pathways and perspectives. In the wild (i.e. the Writing Centre), you’ll probably find Mackenzie huddled in a low-light environment like a mushroom, working away to music while her tea grows cold (because she has forgotten about it).

Jenna

Jenna is on sabbatical until July 2027.

Jenna is a white settler who lives, writes, teaches, and plays on the traditional lands of the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc within Secwépemc'ulucw, the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc. She coordinates the writing centre, working with undergraduate and graduate student tutors to encourage students to develop and value their authentic voice; she also teaches writing, learning sciences, and research-related courses.

Her work-related passions include writing assessment, academic integrity, and social justice education; her writing passions include poetry and creative non-fiction. Jenna was privileged to be part of the CWCA/ACCR Board for six years as Secretary and is currently Co-Editor of CWCR/RCCR. She is intensely uncomfortable writing about herself in the third person.
