TRU Food Security Initiative

TRU Food Security initiative helps cultivate student food security at TRU through inclusive, equitable, and sustainable outreach and programming.

TRU Emergency Funding

Emergency funding is available year-round to eligible currently enrolled students experiencing a financial hardship.

TRU Emergency Grocery Cards

This program is administered through the Faculty of Student Development and is available to on-campus students.

TRUSU Community Meals

The TRUSU Community Meals program provides free, healthy meals to students every other Thursday, fostering connection and ensuring food security on campus.

TRUSU Chef's Package Program

The TRUSU Chef's Package Program provides a free chef's package with nutritious ingredients and an easy-to-follow recipe every month.

TRU Food Services

TRU, a proud Feed BC Partner, has exceeded the initiative's goal of sourcing 30% of its food locally within BC, while food services provider Aramark strengthens this commitment by signing the Cool Food Pledge to reduce food-related greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030.

Community Partnerships and Outreach

Livable Cities, Collaborative Communities

The conference hosted a roundtable on food systems and food security, bringing together TRU faculty with representatives from the Kamloops Food Policy Council, Kamloops Regional Farmers' Market Society and the Grasslands Conservation Council of BC to discuss sustainable agriculture, local food production and regional food resilience.

Kamloops Food Bank

TRU WolfPack has supported the Kamloops Food Bank through community food drives, including free admission for fans who brought non-perishable food donations and volunteer efforts by the women's basketball team to help sort food items for distribution.

Research and Innovation

Kamloops CARE Coalition

TRU Nursing students collaborated with the Kamloops Food Policy Council on a City of Kamloops-funded research project examining access to nutritious food among vulnerable populations. Students developed a food insecurity survey, conducted interviews and updated community food resources, generating recommendations to reduce barriers within the local food system.

The Global-Hub on Indigenous Peoples' Food Systems

TRU's President Dr. Airini and Dr. Rod McCormick are contributing to an innovative global think-tank that advances Indigenous food and knowledge systems by centering Indigenous-led research, governance and culturally grounded policy pathways.
