This bursary is awarded to a student who displays an interest in criminal law and who has entered their second or third year of the J.D. program at a recognized law school in British Columbia. The bursary is in the amount of $1000 and is awarded at the discretion of the Criminal Defence Advocacy Society on the basis of financial need and demonstrated interest in criminal law. The bursary is in honour of Peter J. Wilson, Q.C., now retired. Peter is one of the most accomplished and respected criminal trial lawyers to have practiced in this province. Peter retired from the practice of law in 2018, after 30 years of conducting countless serious criminal trials. He was masterful before a jury and never failed to give his time to his colleagues at the bar. The Criminal Defence Advocacy Society sponsors this bursary as a tribute to Peter’s contributions to the justice system and the profession, with faith that tomorrow’s generation of criminal lawyers will continue in the highest traditions of advocacy.
