A liberal arts education is by nature broad and eclectic rather than narrow and specialized. In the first year, an Arts student normally takes a variety of courses from different disciplines, allowing the student to explore diverse academic approaches while seeking an area of concentration. In the senior years, the Arts program allows for some degree of specialization through a Major of Minor option in a discipline or through a group of thematically linked

Canadian Studies was developed over the course of several years by Arts faculty from a variety of disciplines. The faculty members saw the creation of this thematic option as a logical outgrowth of keen student interest in existing Canadian content courses and strong faculty teaching and publishing in Canadian areas across the Arts spectrum.


Economics provides a framework for analyzing and helping solve society's problems.  Economists examine how and why people - consumers, investors, workers, managers, public servants, volunteers - make choices about the use of our resources.  Economists apply their skills in areas as diverse as law, education, banking, finance, the environment, manufacturing, trade, welfare, agriculture, health, insurance, criminal justice, labour, energy and transportation.  An eduction in economics prepares students for a wide variety of jobs and provides an excellent foundation from which to pursue law school or other advanced degree work.


English and Modern Languages
has earned a strong reputation, with many of our students going on to achieve distinction in the creative arts, teaching, journalism, business, and graduate study.


Geography ClassGeography offers a detailed look at the physical and human geography within Canada and beyond. TRU offers a diverse and experienced staff dedicated to higher education and the exploration of ideas within the local, national, and international community.


Journalism, Communication, and New Media students within the degree program blend theory and practical skills in areas such as writing, editing, interviewing and photography. Working with experienced journalists and state of the art equipment for the production of print and online publications, TRU encourages students to develop the professional and entrepreneurial skills they need to flourish in a changing media environment.

Philosophy, History & Politics offers courses in a diverse range of topics! Whether your interested in learning about the roles of human rights within society, Canada's diverse social history, or the philosophical ideas of Plato, TRU offers engaging classes and conversations that will inspire you.


Psychology is the scientific study of thought, feeling and behavior. The Psychology Department at TRU offers a variety of courses and the option of obtaining a Major, Minor or Honours in Psychology as part of the Bachelor of Arts degree.


Sociology & Anthropology study human relationships - past and present. Sociologists are devoted to the study of social groups and processes, while Anthropologists focus on the human condition.
