Keynote and Guest Speakers

The TPC organizing committee is excited to announce that our 2024 keynote speakers will include Maha Bali and a panel of 3M National Teaching Fellows.

Maha Bali

Maha Bali's keynote is titled Creating Ecosystems of Socially Just Care in University:

In this interactive keynote, we will explore what is needed in order to provide ecosystems of socially just care in universities. Participants will have opportunities to explore the multilayered dimensions of care and equity, and discuss the needed elements of an ecosystem that cultivates socially just care for learners and all other stakeholders. Concrete examples from community building strategies and Intentionally Equitable Hospitality will also be discussed.

maha_bali

Maha Bali is Professor of Practice at the Center for Learning and Teaching at the American University in Cairo. She has a PhD in Education from the University of Sheffield, UK. She is co-founder of virtuallyconnecting.org (a grassroots movement that challenges academic gatekeeping at conferences) and co-facilitator of Equity Unbound (an equity-focused, open, connected intercultural learning curriculum, which has also branched into academic community activities Continuity with Care, Socially Just Academia, a collaboration with OneHE: Community-building Resources and MYFest, an innovative 3-month professional learning journey. She writes and speaks frequently about social justice, critical pedagogy, and open and online education. She blogs regularly at http://blog.mahabali.me and tweets @bali_maha.

3M National Teaching Fellows Panel Discussion

The TPC organizing committee is excited to announce that the 20th TRU TPC will be opened with a morning panel discussion moderated by Dr. Brett McCollum the Director of the TRU CELT and 2019 3M National Teaching Fellows (NTF). The 2022 3M NTF cohort panel discussion members include Drs. Sean Maurice (University of Northern British Columbia), Fiona Rawle (University of Toronto – joining on Teams), Awneet Sivia (University of Fraser Valley), Pamini Thangarajah (Mount Royal University), and our own TRU first 3M NTF - Naowarat (Ann) Cheeptham.

In this 3M-NTF panel discussion, each of the 3M-NTF panelists will reflect and share their thoughts, practices, and philosophies related to kindness and relationships in higher education so that the audience can be informed about their own teaching practices.
