The Teaching Practices Colloquium of TRU invites you to take part in the Eighth Annual Conference to take place Monday, February 20, 2012 from 8:30- 4:30.
Mark your calendars! The colloquium provides a forum for faculty to share scholarly teaching practices and approaches which foster effective learning in a post-secondary setting.
2012 Theme: High Impact Practices
Decades of research show that participating in high-impact educational practices correlates with higher levels of student performance and satisfaction with their educational experience. High impact practices are teaching strategies that foster deep learning and gains in personal growth through providing opportunities for academic challenge, collaborative learning and student-faculty interaction.
Do you use a high-impact practice in your program or courses? Do you practice any of these or have you developed others?
- Seminars and learning experiences that emphasize critical inquiry, frequent writing, information literacy, or collaborative learning?
- Learning communities where students share challenging learning experiences across courses or disciplines?
- Writing-intensive courses where students produce and revise various forms of writing for different audiences and improve skills in reasoning, information literacy and communication
- Collaborative assignments and projects that focus on sharing experiences and learning to work and solve problems as team members
- Undergraduate research involving students investigating leading-edge questions in your discipline in an active and systematic format.
- Diversity and global citizenship studies where students explore cultures, life experiences and worldviews different from their own.
- Service learning emphasizing experiential learning with community partners.
- Capstone courses or projects for final-year students focusing on integration, application, research, or producing portfolios of their program experiences.
We hope you will share your high-impact educational practices with us at the 2012 Teaching Practices Colloquium.
