Acceptance

Registering to apply

The first step to confirming your room in Student Housing is to register.

When you register, we will ask for some basic information so we can contact you throughout the acceptance process. Once registered, you will be able to create an application for the term you wish to apply for.

Start by clicking Apply Now for the residence of your choice.

Creating an application

Once you have registered, the second step is to create an application.

We have three application terms:

  • Academic Year (September - April)
  • Winter Semester (January - April)
  • Summer Semester (May - August)

Once you have selected a term you will be required to fill in some personal information that we need for the application process.

Paying your deposit

As a final step to creating your application, you will need to pay your security deposit.

This $500 deposit validates your application and it also serves as a damage deposit during your stay. Below are the payment options:

We accept the following payment methods:

  • Certified cheque (by courier)*
  • Bank draft (by courier)*
  • Money order (by courier)*
  • Cash (in person)
  • Interac (in person)
  • Online payment (online)**
  • Payee account (online)***
  • Credit card through North Star

We do not accept credit card payments for deposits.

Getting accepted

If you have paid your deposit, you are ready to be accepted. This acceptance doesn’t happen right away! Our first round of acceptance is completed in early April for the academic year, early November for the winter semester, and late March for the summer semester.

All of our acceptance processes are done through email, so once you have been accepted you will receive an email with your assigned room type, as well as instructions on how to move your application forward in the process.

Completing your acceptance

Once you have received our acceptance email informing you that you have been given a room, we will need a little more information from you to serve you better and we will also need you to sign the Student Residence Agreement.

To do this, simply log back on to the Residence Portal using your username (email) and password to continue the acceptance process. You will now be able to proceed to the steps where you were not able to before.

Because you now know the room type you have been accepted into, you will be able to prepare to make your payment. Please see the Rates page for your associated fees and to use our rates calculator.

Making payment

Once you have completed your online paperwork we will have all the necessary information to send you an email outlining your associated fees.

This email will give you a line-by-line breakdown of the charges that will be placed on your account. We will place these charges on your account in August to account for any fluctuations that may occur.

Your first payment for the academic year is due on June 15. If you are accepted after June 15, it is due as soon as possible to confirm your room. Your space in Student Housingg is not guaranteed until we receive the first payment.

Payment methods

Once accepted (via email), you will be able to make payment toward your accommodation.

  • Money order (by courier)*

Roommate matching

In late July, you will have the ability to search and request your own roommate. Having the right roommate(s) is an important part of what makes your experience successful and memorable.

Be you, not who you want to be

All too often we find that when people search for a roommate, they look for a person who matches what they want to be instead of who they currently are. We have found that this is not a good practice. If you are currently extroverted and like to socialize, way more often than not, it is best to refrain from selecting someone who is more reserved and likes to stay in. Of course, any two people can get along great with respect and communication.

Don't stop at your first match

If you've found what you think is a good match, keep searching. Not only does this open the door to find someone you might connect with a little better, but at the very least you will have an opportunity to meet more people who you will be living with during the year.

Chat on Facebook or other avenues

While you have the ability to message on our portal, sometimes taking the conversation to a social media outlet such as Facebook provides an easier avenue and also makes things more personal.
