An exuberant, captivating examination of coming of age in '80s rural America, which, in the words of The New York Times, "... captures its youthful characters at that precise moment when their adolescent fantasies begin to fade into the morning-after realities of adulthood." "This study of a group of young Southerners backing into maturity has fresh observation, sharp characterization and robust humor." —Variety.
Laundry and Bourbon
Nov. 23-25 and Nov. 30 to Dec. 2, 2017
- By James MacLure
- Directed by Robin Nichol
On a back porch in the midst of another hot Texas summer, Elizabeth is just trying to fold her laundry and forget about her troubles. Her friend Hattie shows up and the two settle in for an afternoon of nostalgia, drinking and gossip. Later that night, Roy, once the hero of his high school in Maynard, Texas, has returned from the Vietnam War to find everything he knows changed. About all he has left are memories of his glory days, his adoring younger brother Ray, his wife Elizabeth, and his beloved 1959 pink Thunderbird.
March 1-3 and 8-10, 2018
- By William Shakespeare
- Directed by Heidi Verwey
It’s 2018. Stranded on a mystical island by a shipwreck that has torn her from her twin brother, Viola protects herself by dressing as a man — a scheme that leads to confusion when she becomes employed by the lovesick Duke Orsino, acting as go-between in his hopeless love for the Countess Olivia. Meanwhile, chaos erupts in Olivia’s household as her rowdy uncle, Sir Toby, stirs up trouble for her disapproving steward, Malvolio. It all comes together with great wit, bawdy humour and some of the best of Shakespeare’s language.
