Our Faculty

Our department has 18 well-qualified faculty members who are committed to teaching excellence and student success. Many of our faculty are also strongly involved in research. They have published papers in numerous mathematical and statistical journals and have made presentations at conferences in North America and abroad.

Our Classes

Studying Mathematics at TRU offers many advantages including small class sizes and readily accessible instructors. Our typical lower level classes have not more than 40 students while third and fourth year classes usually have fewer than 15 students. Small class sizes enable our instructors to give students more individual attention than those available at large universities. Free support for TRU Math and Statistics students is available in the Math Help Centre (HL 304) from 9:30- 3:30 every business day during the Fall and Winter terms.

Our Students

During the academic year, our majors have the opportunity to participate in Department Seminars and do independent study and honors research projects with members of our faculty. There are scholarships specifically designated for Mathematics majors. The department also employs its students as tutors in the Math Centre and for summer research projects. Annual events include the prestigious International Putnam Exam, and the regional finals of the BC Secondary School Math Contest hosted by our faculty and students.
