Diploma and dual credential
All first-year students (diploma and dual credential) are admitted into the three-year diploma program. Entry to practice as a respiratory therapist requires the diploma. Students who want a Bachelor of Health Science degree are given the opportunity during the winter semester of the first year to declare their interest in the dual credential stream. Acceptance into the dual credential stream is based on grades and the number of available seats.
Following the completion of studies at TRU, students attend an 11-month clinical internship at hospitals affiliated with TRU. Students gain exposure to all aspects of the duties of a respiratory therapist while rotating between hospitals in the Interior, Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. You must be prepared to relocate as required. Specific rotations cannot be guaranteed.
