Congratulations on your acceptance to the respiratory therapy program at Thompson Rivers University. Here's what you need to know to get started.
- Mandatory respiratory therapy program orientation September TBA 2018 (details to be emailed in August)
- Campus wide orientation recommended for all new students
This barbecue sponsored by the RT department takes place during the second week of classes. It will be held Friday, September TBA, 2018 from 12:30 until 14:30 at the Horticultural Gardens.
All RT students must attend, since this is the initial mentor/mentee activity (first-year students meet their second/third-year student mentor) of the school year. Free food and fun activities!
Completion and submission of TRU RT Immunization Forms and Criminal Record consent forms must occur before Sept. 30 of Year 1. Failure to do so may result in the student not being able to select their Clinical Year hospital placement on their own. Instead, placements will be chosen for you.
Student Immunization Record
After acceptance into the RT Program, the Immunization Record form will be sent to the student by the Admissions office. The immunization form must be completed and submitted before Sept. 30 to email@example.com. All RT students visiting health care service delivery sites for clinical placements are considered health care providers and should be protected against vaccine preventable diseases. You must follow provincial and Practice Agency immunizations guidelines and policies. Such policies are based on the Communicable Diseases and Immunization Guidelines from the BC Centre for Disease control and the Canadian Public Health Agency. Questions regarding immunization? Contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Criminal Record Check
After acceptance into the RT Program, students are required to undergo a Criminal Record Check. The Criminal Record check (CRC) consent form will be sent to the student by the Admissions office. The completed CRC consent form should be emailed to email@example.com with two clear electronic pieces of photo id (preferred id is a copy of a valid driver's license plus one other piece of photo identification) by Sept. 30 at the latest. If you are unable to submit your form and photos electronically, please drop by Science Building Room S212 with your completed form and 1 piece of photo id to Bunny Duggan Program Assistant. Here is a list of Acceptable ID for photo identification. Please do not fax photo identification. Dos and Don'ts of the CRC. Questions regarding the CRC? Contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
HSPNet (Health Sciences Placement Network)
Students are required to complete the consent form before entering clinical placements. HSPNet consent forms are handed out to students in lab setting during year 1 of the program. HSPNet consent forms are mandatory and are for the use and disclosure of student information to agencies for arranging clinical placements. BC Academic Health Council HSP net Overview & Benefits.
