Grad Class of 1999
My name is Carl Mashon and I graduated from the UCC Natural Resources Program (NRS) in May, 1999. I am presently working full time as an Information Systems Officer with the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council in Kamloops. I have a wide range of duties associated with that position including managing a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) department, developing and maintaining a nation-wide computer information system, proposal development for natural resource projects, contract management and technical training.
Since graduation, I supplemented my degree with an advanced computer-networking course (Microsoft Skills 2000) and in late August, 1999 I gained an international certification as a Microsoft Systems Engineer. This additional skill set has been important in preparing me to help expand the technological capacity at the Tribal Council and to help support other staff in natural resource planning initiatives. My training in natural resources management serves well to keep me focused on strategic applications of technology and has significantly improved my ability to communicate on critical planning issues with the Secwepemc communities.
My work has been rewarding and I look forward to involvement and leadership in new service challenges that will assist Secwepemc communities in land and resource management.
