Roles and Responsibilities

The emphasis on the legal liability or accountability of management, supervisors and/or "persons in authority" at companies and organizations has increased in recent years. Practically all legislative jurisdictions have the authority to hold either managers or supervisors directly responsible for the actions of their employees. In some cases, workers and other persons may also be held responsible for their actions in the event of an injury.

Anyone whose regular duties involve management, supervision, or acting as a "person in authority", can be held personally liable for the actions of his/her employees.

The Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) and associated regulatory agencies expect that certain responsibilities are identified within a workplace to ensure a safe work environment.
