Clark Wilson LLP Recruitment Support Award

Value: $500
Distribution: Fall & Spring
Application deadline: May 15 (for any recruitment travel to Vancouver that took place between Fall 2022 and Winter 2023)

The Award will be issued annually to students enrolled in the Faculty of Law to assist with cost related to their participation in the Vancouver (including greater Vancouver area) recruitment process. Costs include: travel, accommodation, meals, child care, lost wages, corporate attire, and personal care. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and have demonstrated financial need.

Process: The student will need to:

1. Make a formal application to the Dean of Law in the form of a letter (attach this to your email)

2. Provide proof of financial assistance by including a copy of your notice of assessment from your online student loan account.

3. In the letter, please indicate the following: (a.) • The purpose of your travel (it needs to be for the purpose of seeking employment so please indicate the name of the potential employer, the address, and the name of the individual(s) you met during your interview). (b.) • Indicate the date(s) and the means by which you travelled – car, bus or airplane. (c) • Indicate any other costs you had to cover due to this trip such as meals, child care, lost wages, corporate attire, and personal care. (d)• Based on the above, please indicate the total costs of your trip.

4. Please note the information you provide will be held strictly confidential.

Donich Entrepreneurial Scholarship in Law

Value: $1,500

The Scholarship will be issued annually to students enrolled in the Faculty of Law distinguished by work experience and academic achievement. (Established by the Donich Law Professional Corporation (www.mydefence.ca), the donor considers work experience to consist of any work experience prior to entering the J.D. program and/or while attending the J.D. program.)

George and Gwyneth Lamperson Law Scholarship

Awarded annually upon recommendations of the Faculty of Law to a student who has completed their first year and commencing their second year of the JD program at TRU, and has demonstrated high overall academic achievement. Preference will be given to a student from the BC Interior, prior to entering the JD program at TRU Law.

Gervin Métis Award for Distinguished Advocacy and Leadership

Value: $1,000
Distribution: Fall Term

Awarded annually to a student who self-identifies as Métis entering their second or third year of the J.D. program at the TRU Faculty of Law. The recipient must demonstrate academic achievement, a connection and commitment to strengthening their Indigenous community at home, where they reside during the academic year, or within the University. Preference will be given to applicants who express an interest in criminal law, social justice, Aboriginal law or law reform. The award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Law.

Grace McDonell Law Leadership Award

Value: $1,000
Distribution: Late Fall
Application deadline: Oct. 15

Awarded annually to a student in their second year, or upon completion of their second year of TRU Law JD Program. Preference will be given to a student that has demonstrated both academic achievement and leadership at the Faculty of law in preserving and enhancing the diversity of Canadian society.

Kamloops Bar Association Law Scholarship

Value: $2,150

The Award will be issued annually to a student in their second or third year of studies enrolled in the Faculty of Law that was a resident of Kamloops prior to entering law school. Ken Lepin Prize of Excellence in Law

Value: $5,500

A $5,000 award provided annually to a top full-time domestic (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) student graduating with the TRU Faculty of Law Juris Doctor degree. The award winner will be one whose achievements have distinguished the student as exceptional. The selection will take into account: academic achievements, research accomplishments, leadership activities and active involvement in the university and/or general community. Additional criteria will include consideration of practical and theoretical achievements, attitude and professional deportment, ability to work with others and leadership potential. This award will be made to the top student possessing these characteristics without prejudice to other awards that the recipient may have received. Preference to students from the Kamloops region. Law Foundation of BC Public Interest Award

The public interest award in the amount of $5,000 will be allotted to four incoming 2L and 3L students who have demonstrated commitment to public interest in law and promoting access to justice.

The Afsoon Erfanian Women in Law Award

This award will be issued annually to a returning female student (in the 2L or 3L year of study) who has a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to a female student who is the first in their immediate family to attend law school and has proof of financial need.

Process: The student will need to:

2. Provide proof of financial assistance by including a copy of your notice of assessment from your online student loan account.

The Fariborz Khasha Law Scholarship

Awarded to a third-year student enrolled in the JD program who has shown continued improvement in their GPA from first year to second year of the program. Preferences will be given to BIPOC and/or first-generation immigrant students who have experienced financial challenges in order to attend law school. The Jess Bray Memorial Award

Value: $5000

Awarded to a 1L, 2L or 3L Law student who demonstrates a commitment to the development of the sporting community, including through playing or coaching minor sports and/or community development and/or a contribution to the TRU law school community. Recipient values and embodies the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, community, friendship, collegiality, and perseverance. To apply please provide: a written piece up to 1200 words, that outlines how you have contributed to sports and/or community development, as outlined above, as well as how financial support will help you achieve your goals. The McDiarmid Law Entrance Award

Awarded to a student entering their first year of the JD program at the TRU law school. Preference to a student who is from Yale, Cariboo, Kootenay, or Prince Rupert judicial districts, who needs to relocate to Kamloops to attend TRU.
