Application

Knowledge Makers is an Indigenous Undergraduate Research program designed to encourage undergraduate Indigenous students to pursue research programs and apply for the UREAP program. Students will design an e-portfolio, attend a workshop that is designed to introduce them to research, contribute to a research publication and its dissemination, and attend a celebrating Indigenous research dinner. Upon completion of the program students will receive a $1,000 award.

To be eligible for the Indigenous Undergraduate Research Program you must:

  • Be a full-time student of Thompson Rivers University, enrolled in an undergraduate program of study
  • Have Indigenous ancestry
  • Have completed a minimum of 60 credits of undergraduate study at the time of application
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.00 (students who do not meet the GPA requirement may apply and are encouraged to include an explanation of the circumstances leading to a lower GPA)
  • If you have participated in the program previously you can attend the workshops and publish but will not be eligible for $1,000 award
  • Be available for:
    • A one on-one meeting with Knowledge Makers coordinator before the workshop date
    • Oct. 18, 5 p.m. — Introduction to Knowledge Makers and expectations for two-day intensive
    • Oct. 19 — two-day intensive workshop (9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
    • March 19 — Celebration (5 p.m. to 9 p.m.)
  • Provide a 500-word statement of:
    • Identification with your Indigenous community, including, if appropriate, knowledge of language, participation in community activities and other ways in which you are involved in or identify with your community of origin
    • Interest in pursuing research
