About Secwepemc Nation
There are approximately 7000 Secwepemc people in the territory which spans 180,000 sq km through the interior plateau of south central British Columbia. Within the territory, there are 17 bands that comprise the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council, the Northern Shuswap Tribal Council, and the Lillooet Tribal Council. The territory boundaries lie within the mountain ranges, grasslands and the river valleys of the Fraser, North and South Thompson rivers and their tributaries. This territory has sustained the once semi-nomadic and hunter-gather Secwepemc Peoples for over 12,000 years.
