Campus Tours: Visitor FAQs

How do I prepare for a safe and enjoyable visit to TRU?
Safety is our top priority. We require all visitors and TRU tour guides to wear a facial covering while indoors, as well as outdoor spaces where physical distancing of at least two meters (six feet) cannot be maintained. Prior to arriving on campus, all guests should complete the self-assessment checklist and read the campus visit guidelines. If you are experiencing symptoms, we ask that you cancel your visit and rest. There will be a future opportunity to visit our campus!

Currently the campus tour is primarily outdoors, so please keep in mind the Kamloops climate (often reaching temperatures of 30+ degrees Celsius in the summer) and dress appropriately (dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes). We recommend bringing your own water bottle, hat, sunscreen, and umbrella (if needed).

When should I arrive at TRU for my visit?
Please arrive on campus no more than 10 minutes before your scheduled tour. You will meet your tour guide outside of Old Main by the basketball courts. TRU Campus Tours Walking Map

How many guests will I be able to bring with me?
The maximum group size for our campus tours is 5 people. Please make sure to indicate when booking your tour how many guests will be attending with you. If more guests attend than was indicated in your tour booking, we may be unable to allow them to join due to group size limits.

Will there be multiple families per tour?
Yes, there is a possibility that you could be grouped with other small families/groups. If this is a concern for your group, please reach out to the Future Students Office and we can discuss other possible arrangements.

How will you facilitate social distancing during a tour?
Your tour guide will provide an overview of the tour and ask that all guests groups walk at least 2 meters (six feet) apart (if from separate households). TRU staff and all guests are required to wear facial coverings in all indoor spaces, as well as instances where physical distancing cannot be maintained. Currently our campus tour is primarily outdoors and is subject to change from day to day, as we are trying to reduce contact for all individuals.

Do you accommodate walk-in visitors?
We recommend that you book a tour to ensure we can host you on campus on your day of choice! Due to our guest limits, visit guidelines, and safety protocols, we cannot guarantee a tour if you do not book in advance.

When are tours offered?
We offer limited guest tours Monday through Friday at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.. We also offer Saturday tours on some select dates throughout the summer at 10:30 am. Book a tour.

Can I schedule an appointment with a Student Recruiter Advisor or a Qelmúcw Recruiter Advisor?
Currently, we are unable to offer in-person student appointments with our Qelmúcw Student Recruiter Advisors and Student Recruiter Advisors. We encourage you to book a Virtual Appointment for before or after your tour. You can book an appointment.

May I stay overnight at one of the on-campus residences?
Unfortunately, our on-campus residences are not currently accepting short term guests. If you’re looking to stay a while, we have negotiated a discounted rate for campus tour guests at a few local hotels. You can find details on Campus Tours under Accommodations.

Are there dining options on campus?
Currently there are no dining options open on campus. They will be open for the full Return to Campus in Fall 2021. Until then, we recommend guests check out Tourism Kamloops for a list of some amazing food and drink options in our area.

What if there is inclement weather?
Our tours run rain or shine, so we ask that you dress for the weather. In extreme heat, the tour may be condensed. If you wish to cancel or reschedule your visit, please cancel through your tour confirmation or email the Future Students Office.

What if I cannot come during the set tour times?
Connect with the Future Students Office for a Self-Guided Tour pamphlet and explore our campus on your own. Please follow all notices and safety directives on campus.
