Cash Acceptance Policy

The BC government has launched an anti-money-laundering initiative which impacts the way universities collect tuition. To reduce risk, the province is limiting the amount of cash post-secondary institutions can collect.

While TRU has no reason to believe our cash acceptance policies have been taken advantage of for the purposes of laundering money, we have changed our policy as of Aug. 1, 2019:

  • TRU no longer accepts cash for tuition payments.
  • TRU accepts cash payments for certain types of transactions, including application fees, registration deposits, parking and library fines.
  • The maximum cash payment we accept is $1,000 per day.

As this direction is coming from the Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training, we are not permitted to make exceptions.

If you present cash in excess of our daily $1,000 limit to the TRU Campus Cashier to make a payment, you will be advised to deposit the funds into your bank account in order to pay via a debit card or online banking payment.

TRU continues to accept wires, cheques, money orders and credit card payments, which can be done in person, over the phone and through your myTRU account online.
