Campers will enjoy an interactive week of demonstrations, hands-on activities, group activities, building projects, university tours, outdoor activities, and games. Areas of science covered include: biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and technology. The best part is that campers get to do all of their own experiments! We have alternating A-Weeks and a B-Weeks that offer different projects, so campers can come for 2 weeks of camp in the summer if they wish! Projects are different each and every year (except for your favourites), as we ensure the curriculum is not repeated for at least 7 years.
Because of recent statistics showing greater involvement for boys in sciences during school age, EUReKA! offers a special GIRLS' WEEKEND camp for girls aged 9-13. We hope to be taking up to 44 girls to Harper Mountain this summer from August 10-12th. At Girls' Weekend, all of our female instuctors will be in attendance and we will do a variety of science experiments and outdoor activities. By providing positive female role models who all love science, we hope to empower your daughters, building their confidence, and hopefully sparking an interest in science and related fields.
In addition to Girls' Weekend, EUReKA! has decided to run a week of GIRLS ONLY CAMP this summer! Studies have shown that girls learn better in female-only environments, resulting in more female pursuing future careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. According to a study done by the Goodman Research Group, girls who graduate from all-girls schools are six times more likely to consider majoring in STEM during their post secondary education. This has led us to try a week where all ages of science camp will be just for EUReKA!'s young lady scientists. This will take place during Week 2 of camp, July 16-20th, for our Junior, Intermediate, Senior, and technology camps. We will show your daughters the role science plays in their every-day lives, encouraging them to explore and discover new things each and every day. With the help of strong female role models (our lovely, intellegent, and super fun female instructors!) and mentors in STEM careers within our community, we hope to open eyes to the possibilities science provides for young female scientists, at the high school, post-secondary, and career levels. If you have any questions about the benefits of all-girls programming, please do not hesitate to contact us!
EUReKA! is happy to announce we have our own Codemakers Technology Camp! Last year in technology camp, participants built Arduino controlled night-lights, constructed their own games and learned about coding! You don't just sit in front of the computer all day, though. The EUReKA! instructors challenge you in our daily capture the flag games and during our weekly water-fight! This year, we will be implementing changes to include the Codemakers intiative into our Technology Camp. Some of the projects will be designed by other Actua network members and Google employees! Because of the high demand for Codemakers last year, we are excited to announce we will be opening an additional week of Codemakers this summer. Codemakers will now be avaliable for all 8 weeks of summer camp!
The EUReKA! Science Program is proud to be participating in Codemakers, a national program powered by Actua and Google. Actua's network members at post-secondary institutions across Canada will empower 100,000 youth with critical computer science skills and prepare them for their future roles as innovators in technology.
