Students study differential calculus for functions of one variable, with applications emphasizing the physical sciences. Topics include calculation and interpretation of limits and derivatives; curve sketching; optimization and related-rate problems; l'Hospital's rule; linear approximation and Newton's method. Prerequisites: Pre-calculus 12 with a minimum grade of C+ or MATH 1000-Pre-Calculus with a minimum grade of C- or MATH 1001-Pre-Calculus Mathematics with a minimum grade of C- or MATH 0610-Pre-Calculus 2 with a minimum grade of C- or MATH 0630-Provincial Pre-Calculus Mathematics with a minimum grade of C- or MATH 0633-Pre-Calculus with a minimum grade of C- Exclusion Requisites: MATH 1130-Calculus 1 for Engineering and MATH 1150-Calculus for the Biological Sciences 1 and MATH 1170-Calculus for Business & Economics and MATH 1141-Calculus I and MATH 1157-Calculus for Biological and Social Sciences and MATH 1171-Calculus for Business and Management Sciences
