TRU Recognizes the 2019 Distinguished Alumni, Community Partners and Student Leaders at the Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner. Join us a for an evening of inspiration and education.

Come celebrate the success of TRU Alumni as they are recognized for their outstanding achievements. Hear the inspirational stories and the impact the TRU Alumni have made on their communities and careers and the influence these students and their leadership skills have made on the TRU campus.

2019 TRU Distinguished Alumni, Research Award

Dr. Bruce Damer, Undergraduate studies 1982

This prestigious award recognizes Bruce for his outstanding research and engineering to the study of the origin of life and the impact these conclusions have made nationally and internationally.

Dr. Bruce Damer, PhD is Canadian-American multi-disciplinary scientist, designer, and author. Dr. Damer began his undergraduate studies in computing science at Cariboo College in 1980. His time in Kamloops served as a catalyst in his pursuit as a multi-disciplinary scientist exploring the origins of life.

Dr. Damer collaborates with colleagues developing and testing a new model for the origin of life on Earth and in the design of spacecraft architectures to provide a viable path for expansion of human civilization beyond the Earth. He began his career in the 1980s developing some of the earliest user interfaces for personal computers, led a community in the 1990s bringing the first multi-user virtual worlds to the Internet, and since 2000 supported NASA and the space industry on numerous simulations and spacecraft designs. Dr. Damer is currently an associate researcher in the Department of Biomolecular Engineering, UC Santa Cruz.

This award recognizes the exceptional support and engagement of industry professionals in the career development of TRU students in particular, a mentor that has exceeded in collaborating with the TRU Career Mentoring Program to be co-career educators, sharing their personal career insights and advice.

TD Insurance Meloche Monnex Scholarship

Shae-Lynn Forseille, Bachelor of Tourism Management 2019

This scholarship is awarded to a student for their positive impact on student career success through coordinating and promoting career building initiatives such as mentorship events and educational workshops.
