Canadian Mountain and Ski Guide Program
The Canadian Mountain and Ski Guide (CMSG) program was delivered by the Adventure Studies Department at TRU from 1996 to 2018. The CMSG was a collaborative effort between TRU and the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) to offer training courses and exams designed to certify guides and instructors to the highly respected standards of the ACMG. The CMSG offered opportunities in the disciplines of Mountain Guide (rock, alpine and ski), Hiking Guide and Climbing Instructor.
In the spring of 2018, the administration of the training and examination of mountain and hiking guides and climbing instructors was transferred back to the ACMG.
A big thank-you to Colin Zacharias for his initial coordination of the program and a huge and hearty thank-you to Dwayne Congdon for all of his hard work in growing, evolving and administering the CMSG program from 2002 onwards. A further thanks to Terry Palechuk, Jim Gudjonson, Brad Harrison and Greg Simmonds for their assistance with coordinating the logistics of running such an intricate field program.
Additionally, thank you to all of the instructors who facilitated the training and exams in the field, and to the candidates who participated in the CMSG courses over the years. Without staff, student and instructor support, the program would not have been what it was. All the best in future endeavors.
