This English/Math Assessment is available for students entering University and Career Preparation programs. Students who are not sure of their level should write the Assessment. 

This assessment is an admission requirement for such programs as Welding, Mechanics and Office Administration. 

Students are referred for an Assessment by Admissions, the Academic Advisor, Counsellor or Aboriginal Coordinator.  Assessment testing takes from one to three hours.   Results are provided in about 10 days from the day of writing. 

Language Proficiency Index (LPI)

The LPI is administered to students who plan to enter a post-secondary institution in BC. It indicates English competency level and is used to place a student in the most suitable English course. 

TRU requires LPI scores for many incoming students.  Pre-registration is required for all public sittings of the LPI.

General Educational Development Test

The GED is a series of five comprehensive examinations in the areas of English Composition, Social Studies, Natural Sciences, Literature and Mathematics. They are designed to measure the major generalizations, ideas and intellectual skills that are normally gained through secondary school. 

The GED tests provide an opportunity to earn an official document of Grade 12 Secondary School equivalency standing. While the GED certificate may not be accepted by every employer or post-secondary institution, it may be of considerable assistance in gaining access to University programs. 

Application Requirements 
At the time of application applicants must be

  1. 18 years of age
  2. BC resident for at least 6 months
  3. out of school for at least one full academic year

Fees
Full test fee is payable at the time of application. Payment should be made by certified check or money order payable to: Minister of Finance and must be received in Victoria twenty-eight days prior to the test date.

Strong Interest Inventory

Assessing your interests is one of the most important steps in the process of career decision making. The Strong Interest Inventory is a valuable tool in the search for a compatible occupation because it helps you gain a more focused understanding of your career-related interests. 

The Strong was developed to help you better understand your interests and help you match those interests with work, vocational or leisure activities. The inventory also allows you to compare your interests to those of men and women who are already satisfactorily employed in some 211 different occupations. 

The Strong reflects today's constant pattern of change in the world of work. It provides a solid, dependable guide for career change and development. The Strong can be used by students exploring careers, clients considering job change, or individuals interested in career development. The Strong provides the most valid, powerful, and up-to-date information to help make informed decisions.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator 

The MBTI instrument is the most widely used personality inventory in history. You may depend on it when you need to make important personal or career decisions. Two-and-a-half million people gained valuable insight about themselves and the people they interact with daily by taking the MBTI instrument last year. 

The MBTI instrument helps you improve work and personal relationships, increase productivity, and identify your leadership and interpersonal communication preferences. 

Cost to take the MBTI is less for registered students.  This includes taking, scoring and a 45 to 60 minute debriefing of your results plus an interpretive booklet describing your type and outlining the basic type concepts.
