Career Planning

Youth Resource Network of Canada: With the aim of providing youth with help in preparing for and finding work, this excellent, expansive site provides info and links on everything from training, education, and job search techniques to international jobs opportunities, internships programs, entrepreneurship and self assessment.

BC WorkinfoNet Youth Site: BC WIN provides youth with easy access to online career and job information, giving them the opportunity to explore careers, educational requirements, job trends, government services, and more. Links to numerous sites of interest to youth, including an excellent list of Webzines.

Work Experience & Internships

Career Edge: This is the site that has a listing of all Federal Public Service Internships available to graduates, as well as various other private sector internships. Youth can apply on-line for the internships that interest them.

WorkWeb: Canadian Association of Career Educators & Employers; features job search tips/info for students and graduates, information for students and potential employers, Employer profiles, Career fair listings, and various related resources and links.

Public Service Commission of Canada: This site includes on-line application for the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP), as well as domestic and international employment opportunities and information on post-secondary recruitment to the Federal Public Service.

Youth Canada Works : Info on Heritage Canada's programs for students and graduates, which include four summer programs for students and two internship programs for post-secondary graduates. Students can apply on-line through a link to the National Graduate Register, and employers can download applications.

Post-Secondary Options

Schoolfinder: This site connects to all Canadian colleges and universities, and allows students to search the database for information on which schools offer the programs/degrees they are interested in.

Youth Entrepreneurship

Canadian Youth Business Foundation: The CYBF provides info on loan programs for youth entrepreneurs, mentoring, resources, as well as advice for entrepreneurs and weekly features.

Aboriginal Youth

Aboriginal Youth: The Aboriginal Youth Web Site, is founded and mantained by local Canadian and United States volunteers. This site is all about getting healthy and knowing other aboriginal teens and people in general from both countries, in hopes to exchange life stories, success accounts and other interesting experiences.

Youth With Disabilities

WORKink: This is an attractive and accessible site, which features private chat counseling on employment issues. LMI, job opportunities and practical advice for persons with disabilities; also links to the Job Accommodation Network (JANCANA). This site does not have a specific youth focus, but the information is accessible for youth.

Employment Standards

B.C. Employment Standards Branch: This site includes an on-line Guide to the Employment Standards Act and information on wages, hours of work, working conditions, frequently asked questions, and selected fact sheets and Branch office forms.
