 Dr. Ulrich Scheck,
Provost & Vice President Academic

Dr. Ulrich Scheck was appointed Interim Provost and Vice-President Academic of Thompson Rivers University on March 1st, 2009. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Mannheim in Germany, and completed both his MA and PhD degrees at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, specializing in German Romantic and contemporary literature.

Dr. Scheck has worked within post secondary institutions for 25 years. In 1985, he obtained a faculty position at Queen's University as a Queen's National Scholar. His commitment to students and international exchanges led to his appointments as Director of the International Programs Office for the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s University and as Program Officer of the Ontario-Baden Württemberg Student Exchange Program. In 2001 he became Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at Queen’s and in 2005 joined Thompson Rivers University as Dean of Arts. He subsequently served in a dual role as Dean of Arts and Associate Vice-President Academic until he accepted his current appointment.

Dr. Scheck has authored and edited over a dozen books, and has published numerous refereed articles, reference works and reviews. In 2000, he was awarded of the Staufer medal of the province of Baden-Württemberg/Germany in recognition of outstanding contributions to international education. Outside of academe, Dr. Scheck’s main passion is music. He plays keyboards for the Kamloops-based classic rock band Blackdog Blue.
