How to Apply

Grade 11 or 12 students can apply at any time up to the start of the chosen Youth Train in Trades program for any remaining Youth Train in Trades seats. Applications for these seats are processed on a first-come basis so you should apply as soon as possible. Waitlisted programs can also be applied for and students will be notified as soon as a seat becomes available.

Who can apply for an Youth Train in Trades program?

  • Grade 10s can begin applying as soon as applications are available.
  • Interested Grade 10 students from other BC school districts or independent schools should meet with their school counsellor to confirm their eligibility. Contact your high school's TNT or Academic Counselor for details.
  • Grade 11s can apply at anytime in their school year.
  • Grade 12s can apply for programs offered in their second semester.

* SD27 students are eligible to apply for any Youth Train in Trades seats in TRU Kamloops trades programs that are not offered at TRU's Williams Lake Campus. Please refer to individual brochures for more detail or refer to School District 27 for additional information.

How do I apply for Youth Train in Trades training?

  • Talk to your parents and decide if this training opportunity is right for you.
  • Immediately meet with your secondary school TNT/Academic Counsellor to schedule your timetable.
  • Complete the application and have them email it to: aceit@tru.ca.
  • Connect regularly with your high school TNT/Academic Councilor for next steps and requirements.
    1. Speak and work with your parents and school contact.
    2. Complete the Youth Train in Trades application.
    3. Submit your application to your school contact.
    4. Your school contact will forward your application to TRU's School of Trades and Technology.
    5. You and your school will receive a letter outlining next steps and requirements in earning an Youth Train in Trades seat. Next steps may include: Maintaining your school's sponsorship, completing the Assessment Test, completing the Youth Train in Trades interview, etc.
