Bachelor of Technology (campus)

The Bachelor of Technology degree program is intended to provide individuals possessing strong technical expertise with the background skills required to help them become effective workplace managers. Graduates will understand how to:

  • Communicate clearly in a culturally diverse workplace
  • Effectively communicate with and lead teams
  • Manage change in the workplace
  • Manage large-scale projects
  • Manage emerging technologies
  • Operate business in a sustainable fashion
  • Support occupational health and safety
  • Effectively function in a global economy
  • Analyze and perform research

Graduates of the Bachelor of Technology program also have the option of using many of their courses as prerequisites towards TRU's Master of Business Administration.

Admission requirements

Completion of a two-year diploma in technology, a recognized trades qualification or an equivalent.

Students with a recognized four-year trades qualification or technology diploma can gain up to 60 credits toward this degree.

Students are expected to have university-level writing skills upon entry into this program. Writing skills will be assessed during the admission process. Those who do not have university-level writing skills should enroll in an introductory first-year English composition course.

Residency requirements

A minimum of 15 TRU credits (distance or on-campus).

120 credits total,  at least 45 of which must be at the upper-level, with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher over all courses required for the credential, as follows:

Statistics (3 credits) – (STAT 1200 or STAT 1201) or ECON 2320

Organizational Behaviour (3 credits) – ORGB 2810 or ORGB 2811

Economics (6 credits) – (ECON 1900 or ECON 1901) and (ECON 1950 and ECON 1951)

Upper-level requirements (45 credits)

Business Organization, Teamwork, Leadership (12 credits) – BBUS 3671 or BBUS 4135 or BBUS 4833 or (MNGT 3730 or MNGT 3731) or ORGB 3730 or ORGB 3770 or ORGB 3810 or MNGT 4720 or (ORGB 4870 or ORGB 4871)

Economics with an Environmental and International Focus (6 credits) – ECON 3550 and ECON 3710

Students are responsible for consulting with a program advisor to ensure that the courses they select are appropriate for their program of study and educational goals. Students who proceed without approval may find that a course does not meet these requirements and may be subject to transcript assessment fees. Students may be required to take some distance courses through TRU-Open Learning.
