Program Description

This course is designed to prepare people for employment in the electrical or related trades. Electricians are skilled in installing, maintaining and repairing electrical apparatus in residential, commercial and industrial environments.

Course Content

This course covers care and use of hand tools and electrical meters; installation and maintenance of electrical equipment; electrical theory and calculations; and the Canadian Electrical Code. Students engage in extensive practical exercises to develop their job readiness skills, such as motor control, cable tray, conduit and residential wiring.

Education Requirements

  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent
  • Placement on the Entry Assessment Test for English at an 060 level
  • Placement on the Entry Assessment Test for Math at an 060 level

General Requirements

  • Students are required to supply their own approved safety glasses and boots

 NOTE:

Prospective students are advised that a limited percentage of Thompson Rivers Electrical Trade Entry graduates find work and apprenticeships locally. The majority of graduates find employment outside the Kamloops region in the Lower Mainland, the Okanagan, Northeast BC, and in Alberta. All graduates who take the program will find employment if they are willing to relocate to work in this rewarding trade.
