Thompson Rivers University, School of Trades & Technology is pleased to announce the brand new Heavy Equipment Operator program. The purpose of these new programs are a result of a growing need of skilled workers in the logging and mining industry. As a solution to this shortage of skilled workers and, in response to industry and community needs, Thompson Rivers University will deliver the following new programs:

Funding is provided through the Canada-British Columbia Labour Market Agreement and is an initiative geared towards people who are unemployed or under-employed and who are NOT currently receiving Employment Insurance.

The goal of this training is that students successfully completing this program will provide the needs of the logging and mining industry with trained, skilled employees.

Interested applicants must first meet certain eligibility requirements set out on the LMA Eligibility Form PDF Document.

Conditions of Eligibility:

  • Applicants may not have completed any university level courses or have completed any Trades Foundation or Apprenticeship levels
  • Applicants may not be currently receiving Employment Insurance Benefits,
  • Applicants may not have received Employment Insurance Benefits in the past 3 years ,
  • Applicants may not have received Paternal Employment Insurance Benefits in the past 5 years or,
  • Applicants may not have established a regular Employment Insurance Benefits in the past 3 years but not received benefits as a result of disqualification

Application Procedure:

The first part of the application procedure is to determine eligibility. Applicants must fill out the "LMA Eligibility Form" and then submit by email, mail, fax or phone to the contacts as follows:
