Online Red Seal Preparation Course

Who: The ideal candidate is an industry professional with several years of practical experience but may feel they are lacking in the theory based knowledge surrounding applications, procedures and practices to be successful on the exam. You may have attended some formal apprenticeship training, but having a strong practical history is essential!
What: A self-paced course designed to assist industry professionals to upgrade their theoretical knowledge in preparation to challenge the Interprovincial Red Seal Exam. The course is divided into 3 sections of training and is progressively planned to reinforce your learning.
You are required to purchase supporting learning materials for the course. Course fees are approximately $500.00 plus the cost of your learning resources.
When: As the course is self-paced, it is really up to you regarding how long the course takes you to complete. Most of our participants are professionals who are taking the course while working. Depending on your level of commitment it can take you anywhere from a month up to the allowed year to complete the course materials.
How to register: Registration can be arranged by contacting
jbeaver@tru.ca or by calling 250-828-5213. There is ongoing registration and once registered you will have access to the course for 1 year. The registration progress is straightforward and usually takes only a few days. The course operates on a Moodle platform and is accessible 24 hours a day for your convenience. A tutor is available via email to promptly assist with any issues or questions you may have.
Why: Past participants in the course have indicated they found the activities and practices helpful in preparation for the Red Seal Cook Exam. We have provided you with 3 levels of self tests, specialized competency tests and final level exams which represent the core competencies of a professional cook and are representative of the types of questions you may encounter on the exam.
NOTE: Thompson Rivers University does not offer the actual Red Seal exam and these arrangements must be made with the Industry Training Authority at www.itabc.ca if you are a BC Apprentice. If you live outside of the province, you must contact your local Apprenticeship office for specific requirements.
