Student Responsibilities:
Students who register with Disability Services (DS) have certain responsibilities to ensure that their accommodations and services are put into place in a timely fashion. Below is a list that overviews those responsibilities; DS Advisors will review this list with each student. Students are encouraged to see their DS Advisors if they have any questions about what their responsibilities are.
• Services: It is your responsibility to make contact with DS and meet with a DS Advisor at the beginning of each academic term in order to access services. DS must be informed of your needs and courses each academic term.
• Accommodation Letters: The Accommodation Letters serve a few very important purposes: they give you an opportunity to introduce yourself to your instructors and develop a good working relationship with them, as well as provide them with information about your accommodations. You will be given one master copy of your accommodation letter and it is your responsibility to take this letter to each instructor for signature and then return it to your DS Advisor before the TRU course withdrawal deadline (check the TRU Course Calendar). Once this letter is returned, a copy of it will be emailed to each of your instructors for their records. You will be provided with a photocopy of your Accommodation Letter to keep. Please note: You must inform your DS Advisor if you drop or add any courses so that a new letter can be prepared.
• Renewal Date for Services: Please note that your Accommodation Letter expires at the end of each semester. You must meet with your DS Advisor to advise them of your new course schedule well before the end of the semester. A new Accommodation Letter will be provided to you to take to your instructors.
• Changes to Disability: If you have had any changes with regard to your disability you must ensure that your DS Advisor has updated documentation so adjustments to service levels and a new Accommodation Letter can be prepared for you if necessary.
• Quizzes, Mid-term Tests/Exams & Summer Final Exams: If you have been approved for test/exam accommodations, you must book your test with DS a minimum of two weeks in advance of your test date.
• December/April Final Exams: You must book your exam with DS a minimum of three weeks prior to the last day of classes for both the fall and winter semesters.
• Test and Final Exam Envelope: You must provide your instructors with a brown manila Test & Final Exam Envelope once you have booked your test or exam.
• Where to Find the Exam Forms: You may pick up Test/Exam Booking Forms and Test & Final Exam Envelopes from Disability Services in OM 1651
• Scheduling of Quizzes, Tests & Final Exams: Test and Exam dates and times may be adjusted by DS, in consultation with your instructor to:
º Fit within DS hours of operation
º Minimize missed class time
º Address back to back exams which may overlap
º Address issues with scheduling of exam rooms and availability of exam invigilators, etc.
• Re: Tests & Exams: When you book your test or exam, be sure to inform the DS staff of any circumstances which could effect the scheduling of your exam.
Important Note: Due dates for booking tests and exams must be strictly adhered to. Failure to book your test or exam within the correct time frames could result in writing the exam in class, without disability supports.
