Counselling Appointments
Appointments may be made either in person with the secretary between 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday in OM1631, or by telephone at (250) 828-5023. Drop-in counselling is also available for students in crisis or emergency situations.
Cancellations:
If you unable to attend your counselling appointment please notify the secretary as soon as possible.
Confidentiality:
Counselling sessions are confidential; information about you is not provided to third parties outside of the Counselling Department without your consent. The only exception to this practice is where you or another person is at imminent risk of serious harm, or where admission of child abuse or child neglect is disclosed. It is important for you to be aware that any information obtained in counselling may be subpoenaed in a court of law. If you are under 18 years of age, other conditions may also apply. Please clarify with your counsellor. Within the Counselling Department, information may be shared with other counsellors for the purpose of consultation.
Getting the Most out of Counselling
To benefit fully from a counselling session, our Counsellors suggest:
- Be specific regarding the concerns you have that led you to seek assistance.
- Participate actively and be as open and honest as possible.
- Set desired goals and outcomes with your counsellor.
- Periodically assess your status and progress
- Attend free workshops
- Ask questions!
