Sharing Mathematics—Call for Papers

SHARING MATHEMATICS – A Tribute to Jim Totten is a forum for sharing ideas, strategies and practices regarding outreach and enrichment in mathematical education.

The conference committee is soliciting talks on a broad range of topics. We also wish to encourage participation from the many communities that Jim reached by providing opportunities for written contributions other than formal presentations. We therefore invite submissions of anecdotes, essays or other items that illustrate Jim’s influence and efforts in the area of enrichment and outreach.

Possible topics include but are not limited to:
  • teaching methods for problem solving
  • teaching practices to enhance student engagement
  • enrichment activities and strategies
  • outreach activities
    Contributed Talk Deadlines:
  • Submission of Abstract (1 page maximum): Tuesday, March 31, 2009
  • Acceptance notification no later than Friday April 3, 2009
  • Submit to: SharingMath2009@tru.ca.

Publication

Plans are in place to prepare a publication entitled: Sharing Mathematics - A Tribute to Jim Totten

This publication will include anecdotes, essays, and other items illustrating Jim's outreach into the mathematical community, in addition to some record of the May 2009 conference sharing the same title. People planning to submit such materials should contact one of the editors for details concerning submissions. The deadline for receipt of materials is June 30, 2009.

All presenters at the conference are encouraged (but not required) to submit a paper from their presentation for inclusion in this publication. All presenters intending to submit papers should indicate that intent in advance of the conference and ensure such submissions are to be received no later than June 30, 2009.
