Respiratory Therapy Fast Track Information

The fast track process provides accelerated access to the Respiratory Therapy Program by allowing direct entry into the second year of the program for graduates of a Bachelor of Science degree program (preferably within the last 5 years). Interested individuals with an Associate Degree in Science (minimum of 60 credits) may contact Linda Mueller to discuss their options for entrance into the program.

Admission into the Fast Track option is determined by a selective admission process based on acadeic qualifications. The number of seats are limited. Applications for the F/T option should be submitted by the end of January. See Admission Requirements.

The applicant will be notified in early March that they have a conditional acceptance into the F/T option of the program. The conditional acceptance is based on the successful completion of the OL distance courses listed below. Once the applicant receives notification in March that they have been accepted, they should then register with TRU-OL for the distance courses. Please contact Linda Mueller if you wish to be assessed for transfer credit for any of the distance courses.

Courses which must be successfully completed by distance study prior to consideration and commencement of year two are listed below. It is recommended that you take the HLTH 1981, RESP 1693, RESP 1683 prior to the HLTH 2511. In order to be considered for entry into second year for each September, you must complete the courses by August 30th. Applicants who meet specific criteria may be guaranteed admission into second year prior to completion of the distance courses (subject to successful completion of the courses).

RESP 1691 Pulmonary Physiology and Introduction to Ventilation
RESP 1683 Respiratory Therapy Equipment
HLTH 1981 Medical Terminology
HLTH 2511 Introduction to Pharmacology

If you wish to apply for admission into the program you are required to follow the application procedures outlined in the program admission requirements package.

The distance courses are delivered through Thompson Rivers University’s Open Learning Division (TRU-OL).

For distance courses information and to register for the distance courses listed above, please refer to the TRU-OL website.
